Normal family life at my place…

Published on 10th Mar 2012 by Renata

So here it is, my very first go at setting a blogging challenge for my creative blogging friends. For a bit more background into what this is all about have a read of this.

To start things off I would like to share a series of pictures from the dusty depths of my computer. For those people that have read my blog for a while, you may recall me referring to Dominic having eaten Lilia's homework before. Believe it or not, his situation isn't a one off- leave a book lying next to him and he'll ensure the ending remains a mystery by quickly and quietly disposing of the final chapter. Dominic suffers from the little understood disorder 'pica' which means that he will quite happily chomp on non-foody items in the same way you might toss handfuls of popcorn into your mouth. Just in case you're eating your lunch, I won't go into the details of some of the things that we've seen draining out of his stomach into the bile bag but you can rest assured that playing 'what on earth is that?' is a common family pass-time around here.

So here, for your viewing pleasure interest, is one of our definitions of normal family life…

I’ve used a feed pump to find stuff in the dark – and I know I’m not alone in that!

Thanks for setting the challenge up, and for sharing your post, which is as always beautiful both verbally and visually. Hope I’ve added my link correctly 🙂 Sally

Thanks Sally. Your link worked perfectly, and as you can probably tell by my comment I was really quite moved by your picture!

Post Pals I can see the pictures on my ipad. Are you viewing on the mobile settings or the normal ones?

Siobhan yes, less talk about setting up a blog, more doing! I’m afraid the SN community has been discussingand laughing/crying about the weirdness of our normal for a long time- I’m just stretching it to include all parents, as everyone I know is just as strange as us lot

p.s. Elliot and Lilia were both cloth nappy kids. Couldn’t do it with D as he spent too long in hospital and you can’t use them when you can’t wash them. When he was older he just took it off and then wee’d on the sofa in protest 🙂

Great idea! Normal is one of those words which to me has no meaning. Got a lot on this week but will try to do this.

Fabulous, I look forward to it

Not surprised re washable nappies – I really didn’t seriously think you would use those (i’d really have to buy you a wonderwoman outfit if you said you had done…), was just curious how terry towelling rated in Dom’s tastes…

Oh, and yes, you’re totally right re blog. Saying no to the tyranny of the urgent is the only way i’ll get on and do this. Oh well, family summer holiday isn’t going to get booked for a while and we’ll have to continue tripping over a cardboard box full of unfiled paperwork for another 2 weeks….

I’ve been reading the blog hop with interest. Normal is not a word used about my situation either, but I’m not sure I quite fit into the category for the challenge, as there’s only me at home doing the balancing, plus I feel so fortunate about my situation that I’d feel guilty including my story in with the hell so many of you go through.
Or maybe that’s part of the point- I think nothing of my situation, but others look at me like I’m a freak from another world. When you’re in the moment, sometimes all you can do is make it to the next moment, the next round of drugs, etc and those minutes you’ve spent thinking about your situation, could be used to at least locate the paperwork you’ve been meaning to do for months!!

    1. RenataB says:
      15th Mar 2012 at 10:44 pm

Yes, definitely, that is the point. Normal is relative. You mustn’t feel guilty, really the hop is an attempt to get everyone to share what their normal is. Even if it’s staying at home stroking the cat! Do jump in when you’re ready (if you want to) I’ll be running it every week, so there is plenty of time!

Done, and hopefully the link will work. Not sure it’s of any interest, and it’s long, sorry!!

Fabulous! Well done. I’m cross eyed with tiredness right now, but will read it tomorrow 🙂
